Recovery is a Lifelong Journey

Principle 7

The FRT therapist, who is a state-licensed medical or mental health professional, must be knowledgeable and experienced in many paths to growth and recovery. Ideally, the therapist is engaged in a personal recovery practice, whether 12-Step or other, in which capacity, the therapist stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the family members.

Principle 8

Since addiction and the codependency that enables it are chronic conditions, it is recommended that the addict and codependents develop ongoing support beyond the first year of continuous sobriety.

Principle 9

Treatment includes monitoring for co-occurring mental and physical health problems and providing appropriate referrals as needed.
